Purpose
At Engage, we believe business can, and should, be a force for good.
That belief isn’t new. It shapes how we operate, who we hire, what we prioritise and how we show up for the people and places around us. Doing good isn’t a bolt-on to the day job, it’s baked into it.
From our B Corp certification to our charity partnerships, team-led initiatives like Elympics, to our day-to-day decisions, we’re always working to strike the right balance between purpose and profit. This is what that looks like in practice.
Four years as a Certified B Corp
We became a Certified B Corporation in 2021, and we’ve held that status ever since. For us, it wasn’t just about getting a stamp of approval. It was about setting a benchmark.
Being a B Corp means we’re held to high standards across people, planet and governance. It covers everything from how we support our team and structure our business to how we choose suppliers and deliver work. It’s a rigorous framework that keeps us accountable and keeps us improving.
We see B Corp as a standard to keep reaching for, a way to stay focused on what matters and hold ourselves to account.
Turning movement into meaning through Elympics
Now in its ninth year, Elymics is our homegrown fundraising initiative that gets people moving and giving, all year round. It works like this: for every movement, the team logs physical activity via Strava, which syncs with a bespoke leaderboard site we built in-house. Miles are tracked, progress is visualised, and as activity builds, so does the fundraising.
People can take part however they like - walking, cycling, running, lifting - and we match each mile with money for our charity partners. Each month, there is a prize draw and our team could bag an extra day’s holiday.
So far, Elympics has raised over £80,000 for charity. It’s a brilliant example of how a simple idea, supported with the right tools and a bit of healthy motivation, can make a real difference over time.
Balancing Purpose and profit
We’re a commercial business. We want to do great work, build long-term client relationships, and grow in a sustainable, meaningful way. But we’ve never believed that commercial success has to come at the cost of ethics, impact or integrity.
For us, purpose and profit are not in conflict; they work in tandem. Doing right by our team helps us retain great people. Choosing value-aligned partners helps us do better work. Taking sustainability seriously isn’t just the right thing to do; it’s the smart thing.
So we think carefully about how we hire, who we work with, and where we invest our energy. It’s a considered approach, but one we’re committed to. Because the kind of business we build matters.
Supporting local charities that make a difference
Over the years, we’ve supported a range of local charities doing important, hands-on work in our communities. The three organisations we are supporting this year are CATCH, FareShare Yorkshire and Leeds Mind.
- CATCH is a youth-led charity based in Leeds, creating safe, inspiring spaces for young people to grow, connect and lead. Their work is driven by volunteers and built on a belief in opportunity for all.
- FareShare Yorkshire tackles food waste and hunger by redistributing surplus food to charities and community groups across the region. It’s a simple model with a powerful impact, reaching people when and where it’s most needed.
- Leeds Mind promotes mental health and wellbeing through a mix of services - from counselling and peer support to advocacy and training. Their support helps thousands of people across Leeds navigate life with dignity and hope.
These charities reflect our values, our local area and our desire to give back in ways that feel direct and meaningful.
Putting Purpose into practice
We don’t just talk about purpose, we try to live it.
That means being thoughtful in how we run the business day to day, whether it’s how we choose suppliers, how we reduce waste, or how we support people’s wellbeing and development. It means creating space for honest conversations, building feedback into how we operate, and staying open to change.
It also means celebrating small wins, learning from setbacks, and keeping ourselves accountable because being a force for good isn’t a one-time decision. It’s a continuous commitment.
Purpose isn’t something we add on. It’s how we work, who we are, and what we stand for.
